TAX DEADLINE EXTENDED (AGAIN!) THANKS TO HURRICANE HELENE — HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Hey North Carolina friends!

If you’ve been feeling behind on taxes this year, good news: the IRS just gave you more time. Thanks to Hurricane Helene and the federal disaster declaration covering much of North Carolina, the tax deadline has been extended to September 25, 2025 for those in affected areas.

Yep, more time to file, more time to breathe, party .........and hopefully, less time tearing the house apart looking for that one missing W-2 you swore was right there.

WHO QUALIFIES FOR THE EXTENSION?

If you live in a federally declared disaster area, including Mecklenburg County and the Lake Norman region, this extension applies to you. That includes most of our clients here in Cornelius.

What’s been extended:

- Individual income tax returns (if you filed an extension)

- Estimated tax payments due April 15, June 17, or September 16

- Business tax returns for S Corps, partnerships, and corporations originally due in March or April

- Payroll and excise tax filings are due within the affected period

In plain terms: if it was due between April 15 and September 25, 2025 .... chances are, you’ve got more time.

SHOULD YOU CELEBRATE?

Sure! Just don’t wait until September 24 to start sorting receipts in your truck’s glovebox.

Why not?

- Interest may still apply on some payments; the IRS is patient, but they keep a tab.

- You’re still responsible for filing everything accurately, even with the delay.

- September is basically tomorrow in tax-preparer time — don’t turn a gift into a headache.

WHAT TO DO NOW:

1. Check your mail and inbox – round up those tax documents.

2. Call us early – the sooner we get started, the smoother it’ll go.

3. Use this time wisely – not to procrastinate, but to plan, save, and maybe enjoy a little lake time while we handle the details.
